Photography Notes

  • ·         Light stands are very important as they help with holding flash heads, they can also be set up at different angles and distances to the model preference.
  • ·         Flash heads are connected to other flash heads as long the camera is connected to one as it helps trigger it. There were 2 flash heads It also has a switch to change how bright or dim the light is.
  • ·         Umbrellas are also useful for lighting. The light from the flash head is reflected onto the umbrella which is later reflected unto the desired object or person.
  • ·         There are others surfaces that can be used to reflect. These are colours such as silver and gold.
  • ·         Softboxes are used to create a softer and flattering light. As well as creating a brighter illumination. Soft boxes have numbers indicating how strong the flash will shine (1.0 being the lowest and 6.0 being the highest)
  • ·         Reflectors are white boards used to create natural lights. It bounces the light onto the subject and fills those areas that may be seen as shadow areas.
  • ·         You can have white black and grey backdrops for the photo-shoots.
  • ·         When taking the picture we’ll se using a Nikon D7000 and need to make sure while taking the picture we use the view finder.
  • ·         The camera has two options A for Aperture which is used for detailed photos and S stands for Shutter Speed used for fast movement photos.
These are some of the notes i took during the studio induction Scott carried where he showed us how to use some of the equipment.
